 ECUMENICAL EFFORTS

LinC

LinC (meaning "Love in the Name of Christ") is a Christian ministry in partnership with World Vision.  It is staffed by volunteers who endeavour to provide emergency or short term help to people in the local community who need assistance.  In Hornsby, volunteers from a number of churches (co-ordinated through the Minister's Fraternal) work together to assist people who have a need through age, illness or other incapacity  by providing transport for medical appointments, home care, cleaning and other assistance.  Some volunteers serve refreshments at Hornsby Courthouse at the Children's Court on Thursday mornings and the Domestic/Family court on Friday mornings.

A pamphlet is available about this work.

There is an online description of the way  LinC works within the community in northern NSW.

Scripture Teaching

The local protestant churches have combined to provide Scripture teaching in the local public and High schools. We currently help by providing teachers from this parish to Hornsby South Public School. We also help support paid Scripture teachers for Asquith Boys, Asquith Girls, Hornsby Girls, and Normanhurst Boys High Schools.

Hornsby TAFE

It appears that there is a blanket restriction on advertising any organised Christian activities that may occur in TAFE's in NSW, even for Christians wanting to meet together and wanting to invite other Christians to join them. (This also applies to every religious group... it appears that for the NSW TAFE system that the term "secular" may now mean the absence of all corporate religious expressions except atheism and humanism).

Would you please pray that God will open the way for TAFE to allow Christian teachers, staff and students to freely meet on TAFE campuses in NSW, and to be able to have signs advertising to others who may wish to join with them. Pray also that meetings with officials from TAFE and religious groups will be fruitful.

Hornsby Hospital

Along with the chaplain at the hospital, there is also a very dedicated team of trained people who visit hospital patients each week. 2 of these people are parishioners of this church.

Hornsby Shire Council

Our minister participates on the roster for praying at the start of regular Hornsby Shire Council meetings, as well as praying for people at the local Citizenship Ceremonies.

Ministers' Meetings

The leaders or ministers of the local churches meet every second month for prayer, support and encouragement, as well as ensuring that combined events like LinC run smoothly. The current chairman of the Minister's Fraternal is the Rev Ann Hogan from the Hornsby Uniting Church.
